At McKitrick, we are a learning, caring, community. These words describe the kind of school we are building together and what we want for every student who walks through our doors.
We believe every student deserves to have a voice, feel supported and capable, and develop the skills they need to grow, shape their future, and contribute to their community. Our purpose is bigger than success in any one subject. We want students to leave McKitrick knowing themselves as learners, confident in their ideas, able to communicate their thinking, advocate for what they need, and prepared for what comes next.
Learning means helping students become thoughtful, capable and confident learners. Caring means building relationships where students feel known, supported and safe enough to take risks, make mistakes and grow. Community means recognizing that every student belongs to all of us, regardless of grade or classroom, and that we share responsibility for their success.
This purpose comes to life through the everyday work of our staff: listening to students, responding with patience and respect, maintaining high expectations, adapting to individual strengths and needs, working together when students need support, and taking the time to understand each student's identity, experiences and circumstances.
These everyday moments, big and small, are all part of the same story.

School Highlights
- Breakfast & Lunch Programs: Students have access to nutritious food at school, including both breakfast and lunch supports, helping ensure hunger is never a barrier to learning.
- Specialized Student Support: Our specialized support classroom provides responsive, individualized programming for students who benefit from additional support with learning, executive functioning, emotional regulation, social skills, and other areas of development.
- Responsive & Inclusive Learning: With a diverse range of learners, our staff work collaboratively to understand individual strengths and needs, remove barriers, and maintain high expectations for every student.
- Strong Academic Foundations: Literacy, writing, mathematics, critical thinking, and communication are central to our learning. Students are encouraged not only to find answers, but to explain their thinking and develop confidence as learners.
- Counselling & Wellness Supports: School-based counselling and additional supports help students develop social-emotional skills, navigate challenges, build relationships, and strengthen their overall well-being.
- Clubs & Extracurricular Opportunities: Students can participate in a variety of clubs, activities, and special opportunities throughout the year, giving them ways to discover new interests and connect with students and staff beyond the classroom.
- Athletics & Daily Physical Activity: Students participate in regular physical education and have opportunities to represent the Mustangs through school sports, developing teamwork, perseverance, skills, and school pride.
- Arts, Creativity & Hands-On Learning: Art, music, drama, projects, technology, and hands-on experiences provide different ways for students to create, communicate, problem-solve, and demonstrate their strengths.
- Student Voice & Leadership: We intentionally create opportunities for students to share their perspectives, advocate for themselves, contribute ideas, take on leadership roles, and help shape their school.
- Culture, Identity & Belonging: We value the identities, cultures, experiences, and circumstances students bring with them. Cultural learning and community connections help create an environment where students can see themselves reflected in their school.
- Family & Community Connections: Family events, community partnerships, and opportunities to bring families into the school strengthen the connection between home, school, and the broader community.
- A Small, Connected School Environment: One of McKitrick's strengths is our ability to know our students. Staff collaborate across classrooms and programs because every student is our student, not simply the responsibility of one teacher or classroom.
School Fees
The school registration fee is $50.00 - this includes academic supplies and classroom materials for students.
Lunch program- $40.00 per lunch card. This will give you 19 lunches. Notes will be sent home when the students lunch card is running out, but we encourage the parents to pay monthly.
